Boy imitates mom's murder: Iol news, 04/02/100

A toddler who witnessed his police VIP Protection Unit father shoot and kill his mother, before wounding two men and hijacking three cars, is so traumatised he imitates the attack.
Every now and then the three-year-old boy points his hand at people, pretending to be carrying a gun and shooting, making gunshot sounds, his uncle Bakholise Sokutu said.

Even when he is carrying a stick he points it and "shoots". He does the same thing when he sees a policeman walking past. One of the men his father wounded was a police officer.
The child also imitates the sounds of speeding cars and screeching brakes.
"It's like a movie he watched and now he is replaying it," Sokutu said.
The boy was in the car with his parents when his father, Zamumzi Nombewu, 35, shot his mother Nontsikelelo, 28, attacked two men and hijacked three cars on January 19.
He dropped off the boy at his mother's home and later shot and killed himself.
Sokutu said the boy was traumatised and would need extensive counselling after his mother's burial in the Eastern Cape on Saturday.
Nontsikelelo will be laid to rest at her mother's home in Mqanduli in the old Transkei.
She and her son were abducted by Nombewu and three other men outside a Philippi creche before he drove them to Khayelitsha and shot her in front of the boy.
He then left her body in the car at a friend's house.
He borrowed his friend's vehicle but abandoned it near Philippi College and hijacked a Nissan Sentra.
He drove to Gugulethu where he shot and injured another man.
Police said Nombewu took a taxi to Philippi where he hijacked a police officer's Toyota Tazz and shot the officer in the hand.
He abandoned the Tazz in Philippi and was seen by police hijacking a Hyundai.
"Police gave chase and the suspect killed himself before they could reach him.
He shot himself once in the head," said police spokeswoman Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi.
After the incident, the officer's family said the tragedy could have been prevented if police had confiscated his gun when he was arrested for assaulting his wife.
VIP Protection Unit spokesman Vish Naidoo said Nombewu did not have his gun when he was arrested and the arresting officers did not know he was a policeman.
He had handed in the weapon before going on leave, which was when the assault on his wife took place. His managers gave him the gun when he returned because they did not know he had been arrested.
Police are investigating murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and hijacking cases. The officer was laid to rest in Cape Town last Saturday.
